Facebook wants to trick you into thinking that privacy protections or changes to Section 230 alone will be sufficient. While important, these will not get to the core of the issue — which is that no one truly understands the destructive choices made by Facebook except Facebook. We can afford nothing less than full transparency. As long as Facebook is operating in the shadows, hiding its research from public scrutiny, it is unaccountable. Until the incentives change, Facebook will not change. Left alone, Facebook will continue to make choices that go against the common good — our common good. It is tricky to find me on social media so my brand is non-existent

My goal is to build my brand to a status where in the local soccer world (Indy Eleven and United Soccer League) my name at least rings some bells. I have been trying to connect with professionals in the areas I am passionate about. I have also tried to interact and engage with fellow fans. I try to interact with them but in such a busy area it does not happen overnight. Like Public Relations consultant and textbook author Karen Freberg said in her presentation in my Strategic Writing for Social Media class, “Use your content to provide value to help others.” Keeping this in mind will give me an edge in capturing the attention of professionals I want to connect with.

When it comes to social media, the feedback loop is broken because users are not customers

Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Snap‘s Snapchat, Google — at the end of the day, they are not here to serve you and me. They can only survive if they serve their customers (the advertisers) first. The best way to serve those customers is clear: Get users addicted to the screen. Remember: If something is free, you are the product.

It’s time to change the conversation about social media

In my opinion, all kids and teenagers should grow up without [social media] but it’s impossible to control. At least make sure you set time for yourself without any distraction, ban your phone when you eat and when you’re spending time with someone in real life for example (even if it happens less often nowadays).

Though President Trump has been exceptionally vocal about the negative effects of fake news, even going as far as to publicly accuse several news outlets of participating in the activity, there are many who believe his campaign is using fake news accounts as a tactic to get him ahead in the election race. For example, several prominent news outlets such as the Washington Post and the New York Times have claimed that President Trump’s campaign is built on disinformation.
