In my opinion, all kids and teenagers should grow up without [social media] but it’s impossible to control. At least make sure you set time for yourself without any distraction, ban your phone when you eat and when you’re spending time with someone in real life for example (even if it happens less often nowadays).

They also don’t acknowledge—critically or otherwise—the efforts already taken by companies to address many of the issues they raise. Instead, they rely on commentary from those who haven’t been on the inside for many years.

Disinformation acts as an ever-evolving tool that can be used to help change or expedite how the public interprets individuals, policies, or other general categories of opinion

Though President Trump has been exceptionally vocal about the negative effects of fake news, even going as far as to publicly accuse several news outlets of participating in the activity, there are many who believe his campaign is using fake news accounts as a tactic to get him ahead in the election race. For example, several prominent news outlets such as the Washington Post and the New York Times have claimed that President Trump’s campaign is built on disinformation.

This feels for me like one of the huge issues around social media. People use social media platforms to lecture others on the right way to be. The right thoughts, beliefs, routines, habits, political affiliations, diet, way to be in relationship, way to support their cause… the list is endless. And if you dare disagree, you are at best un-liked and at worst, personally attacked.

Accents allow us to feel part of a social group, and can give us a sense of identity and belonging

Humans have developed this incredible ability to read each other’s voices. By listening closely to someone’s accent, we can make guesses about their age, gender, nationality, social status, the languages they speak, and even where they went to school. Unfortunately, this finely-honed skill also has a dark side. As an accent can tell us so much about a person, we often attribute qualities to that person based on their voice, just as we often make assumptions about a person based on how they look.

The number of apps available for chatting, texting, video chat, or just sharing things numbered about 250 in 2019 with somewhere around 3 billion users of at least 2 or more — that’s a lot of information being shared across these platforms every minute of every day

I am currently on almost all major social media apps and this blog site. These are the places I communicate or interact with others even before this pandemic occurred.
