I received a very mean message that said I should stop posting happy family shit.. it went on to say some very crude things about my family. Let’s just say, I was flabbergasted. Especially after I made the connection who the message was from. My choice was no response.

I fortify myself with grit and conviction and take another deep breath. I look up at the ceiling and let one lonely tear fall. I make an agreement with myself that it will be my only tear tonight. I gently pat my cheek dry, take one more look at myself in the mirror and this time the woman I see looking back is a fighter. I’m staring at her. I can see that she’s tough. She knows she can do this. She believes in her strength. She believes in herself.

When it comes to social media, the feedback loop is broken because users are not customers

Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Snap‘s Snapchat, Google — at the end of the day, they are not here to serve you and me. They can only survive if they serve their customers (the advertisers) first. The best way to serve those customers is clear: Get users addicted to the screen. Remember: If something is free, you are the product.

Make no mistake, loneliness kills and I am not advocating that anyone isolate, especially if you’re depressed or struggling. In that case, by all means, reach out on social media and know you are loved. You matter. But I will say that learning how to go from loneliness to solitude has been one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever given myself and it’s been in those moments of quiet, I’ve come to know my strength.
