The Consumer Audience is Obsolete

Today, you have no audience — today, when you write to express your ideas, you do so within a wide variety of logical systems.

There are no news consumers sitting in laid-back postures, there are no fans leaning in to your news narratives. Your story is moot.

Well, speaking of conservative candidates, I just drone on and on and on and on, never letting anyone else get a word in edgewise, until I start foaming at the mouth and fall over backwards…

The passive consumer audience is brain-dead.

Active production of meaning is now a matter of interacting with natural languages (cf. wants.blog ). It is participatory, it is emergent, it is generative, creative, and does not merely follow a narrative prescription. It evolves from day to day, context to context, and it is connected. It does not need no education, Google — no central authority, no golden algorithm to solve each and every problem. It is decentralized, distributed, networking.

Zita is engaged in helping to build this world — why not participate, too?

I have some real life longevity goals, but first I need to have the credentials to achieve them

I’m not in a rush. I want to have high scores and be able to do this at my leisure. My daughter is still home, and young enough to need me frequently. I also will need to be in school for some of my more focused classes working with the plants or in a lab, so I can’t set myself up for failure by devoting all of my time to school when I know that I will have obligations at home to compete for time with.

As a young person very connected and reliant on the internet, I’ve kind of made peace with the fact that my data is taken and out there

There’s the argument that since we’re using Facebook and Gmail and stuff like that for free, our data is allowed to be collected (and used for marketing) as a trade-off, and while I guess that makes sense, it’s still kind of gross. Especially because that privacy doesn’t kick in once you do pay for an upgraded account or something. And with more and more companies just monopolizing everything like Amazon does for example, I think some have way too much info. If they get hacked, you could be screwed.

I am excited about researching and learning more about a topic related to my degree field and to hopefully make some new friends along the way

For my research topic I chose immigration in the United States. Right now I am in the process of obtaining my degree in Homeland Security so this topic is very related to my future career field. Since immigration will play a big role in my future I wanted to take a deep dive in to researching it and determine what the pros and cons are of immigration in the United States. I was thinking of narrowing it down a little more than just immigration, and focusing on just one group of immigrants, like hispanics or muslims. In America today we are very divided when it comes to this topic, and this is another reason I want to research on immigration; to determine all the pros and all the cons so we can find a middle ground for both sides to agree on.

When you’re a disabled person like me, there are certain things that able-bodied people always say to you. I’ve only been a wheelchair-user for six years and I already feel as if I’ve heard it all thousands of times before. Because I’m black, I don’t only hear the things that disabled people frequently do, I also hear things that black people often do too.
