I bend like grass and blow like leaves yet feel discouraged and people look for my pictures instead of words

It’s like a tiny plant growing in cracks, hustling to bloom but failing because no one likes where she’s coming from.

Why do we need a garden to love the flower? Aren’t wildflowers flowers too??

Why do we judge an artist by the skin they are in and not by what they’re writing?

Why do we encourage people with million followers and ignore the novices discovering art?

Your audience wants to know that you know who they are, you’ve heard their issues, and you can help them

People flock to someone who understands and can help them. When you study influencers or those with exceptional standing in their industry, that is their followers’ impression. He or she offers insight or provides a service that others need and use. If you are not sure if you are doing an excellent job at this, look for a third party to objectively look at your social media and anything else you put out to the public. Sometimes we need another set of eyes on what we do. Getting others’ opinions is not a sign of weakness; it is an example of strength and perseverance as you craft your best possible message to the masses.

The number of apps available for chatting, texting, video chat, or just sharing things numbered about 250 in 2019 with somewhere around 3 billion users of at least 2 or more — that’s a lot of information being shared across these platforms every minute of every day

I am currently on almost all major social media apps and this blog site. These are the places I communicate or interact with others even before this pandemic occurred.

I just developed a phobia of standing on wheels

I realized it’s much more than a hobby – it is a community and lifeline. For some, it has been an escape since childhood. Others start because they like the fashion or look up to famous skateboarders. It felt good to be a woman trying it out because we represent a small portion of riders. Overall though, we all share similarities: as stated by USC, “Skateboarders have this tenacity to practice a trick thousands of times, they are creative, and they have cross-cultural interactions not common in other spaces.”

Thirty million people. Each, not just a “number,” but a person. With a story: Moms. Dads. Siblings. Spouses. Sons and daughters. Friends. Colleagues. That staggering statistic hits differently when you think about the person behind the number: struggling to pay bills, put food on the table, blowing through savings, or finding themselves having to go to food banks for the first time, ever.

Anyone who has gone to college knows that the only way to connect with a nonprofit is by a special summoning ceremony involving unicorn’s blood and a wishbone. The first step is to hold your horses and honestly think about what you’re doing. The second step is to contact whichever person was so dismissive about your idea of help that it made you want to stop talking to people altogether. That person actually, is the only person in your community who will know how to enact the ceremony. Email that person about your concerns and your desire to help, and then hold your breath until they get back to you.

“The hardest thing in life isn’t getting what you want; It’s knowing what you want.”

Dear KB,

You said my last post made you go ‘Ooof.’

I have to say, you questioning whether we use dating apps as a way of coping with our feelings, made me go, ‘Oooof.’ Quickly followed by a ‘Mother fucking Ooof!’

Because, I know you’re right.

What I have become painfully aware of, however, is I try to use the apps as a way to cope with the alone-ness of being single, but it doesn’t actually work. And in fact, it actually turns a not that lonely me into a lonelier me.

So I came across this Tim Ferriss post the other day, where he suggests that instead of making New Year’s resolutions, you conduct a past year in review—a chance to reflect on what you did in 2019 that was positive and led to positive feelings, versus what you did that was negative or led to negative emotions.

Rant: Blame the Teacher, not the Student

manual, millennial, rant, transmission

What Does Phil Know?

I’ve been brainstorming writing this for a while. I’ve got a lot of friends in the generations above me, and have heard a lot more millennial/young person hate showing up more and more, especially when it comes to car enthusiasts. A lot of that is the nature of the social media machine, but at the same time, y’all gotta take a step back and think about your actions that helped cause this.

One particular item that grinds my gears is the car enthusiasts’ hatred of “kids that don’t know old car stuff”, especially the “millennial anti-theft device” aka the manual transmission. I know I’m a relatively rare exception, but both my wife and I know how to drive a manual transmission, and we’re both millennials.

I’ve seen too many memes and articles about botched car thefts due to a younger person not knowing how to drive manual. But way too…
